World Winx

The main heroines of the spin-off are Bloom , Stella , Flora , Muse , Tekna and Leila ^{[K 2] [2]} . The same heroines have a major role in the animated series Winx Club. His story tells about a team of young fairies , who call themselves Winx and fight evil in the world of magic ^[3] . In the "Winx World", in addition to the six main characters of the franchise, several new ones appear: Ding-Ding - the queen of the world of dreams and the captor of talent; Jim - the captain who worked for Ding-Ding, but later decided to become the new king of the world of dreams; Ace - WoW show host; Lorelei - replacing Bloom in a reality show; jury members of the show; talented children who participate in the show; police officers investigating the disappearance of children, and others ^{[1] [2]} .

The Winx Club fictional universe consists of several dimensions, the main one of which is Magix - a magical world that is closed to ordinary people ^[4] and inhabited by fairies , witches , pixies , ogres , trolls , monsters ^[5] and other creatures. However, the spin-off action does not take place there, but on Earth and in the world of dreams ^[1] , which is located on the island of Netlandia ^{[K 3] [2]} . The concept of fairy magic, as in the original series, is presented here in the form of magical transformations that fairies receive by performing certain actions. Transformations increase their power and in some cases allow you to use magic in a particular environment. Along the spin-off, the heroines earned two new transformations:

• Drimix ( Italian Dreamix ) is a transformation that Winx received when they first entered the world of dreams ^[6] . They received a partial power of Drimix even earlier, for fulfilling Annabelle's dream. She allowed Winx to feel which gifted children were at risk of being abducted ^[7] .
• Oniriks ( Italian. Onyrix ) is a transformation that is an evolution of Drimix and was given by the Winx to the forest spirit to save the world of dreams ^[8] .

Winx are sent to Earth in search of talented children to help them develop the magic of their talents. To do this, they create a reality show called WoW and work as judges in it, hiding their real personalities. During their mission, the girls are confronted with an unknown criminal who abducts talented children and are trying to find him. They invite talented singer Annabelle to the show, and her dream to perform on stage becomes a reality ^[1] . Winx comes to the vision of the transformation of Drimix, and it opens up the power to feel talented children in danger. When Annabelle disappears, the Winx find out that the abducted children are kept in the dream world. Bloom regularly travels to this world to solve the mystery of the disappearance of talents. There, she meets a young man named Jim, and Bloom initially suspects him of kidnapping children, but he explains that he tried to prevent the real kidnapper, Queen Ding-Din ^{[K 4]} , for whom he worked. Bloom falls into the Ding-Ding trap, and the Winx go to her aid, but cannot cope with the queen. Jim comes to the rescue and frees gifted children, after which the queen escapes, and Jim takes the place of Ding-Ding on the throne. It turns out that Jim's real name is Captain James Hook ^[1] , and the Queen once gave him back his youth.

Winx become pop stars and arrange a world tour. After one of the concerts, the mysterious voice of the world of dreams appeals to the girls and explains to them that the queen had become wicked because she had lost her friend Peter Pan. The forest spirit from the world of dreams gives them a new Oniriks power in order to save the world of dreams from danger. Then Winx is looking for Peter's girlfriend, Wendy Darling, who is keeping an orphanage in London, and reading Peter’s farewell letter to Wendy, in which he asks her to look after his son Matt Barry. Winx are divided into two groups, one of which explores the world of dreams, and the other is looking for Matt on Earth. When Winx finds Matt, Jim betrays them, wanting to continue to rule the world of dreams, but Matt defeats him, and he falls into the portal of the world of nightmares. Ding-Ding becomes good again, and nothing threatens the world of dreams. The musical critic Miss Zlobia reveals to people the true personalities of the Winx, and Bloom, through a vision, learns that Zlobia is really Baba Yaga and wants to take over the world.

In September 2014, it became known from the Rainbow press release that Netflix ordered two 13-episodes of spin-offs for the Winx Club cartoon series from the studio to fill the niche of children's TV shows in its service. At the time of the announcement, the project carried the technical name Winx Club WOW: World of Winx . Having ordered the original series from Rainbow, the streaming service expanded its cooperation with the Italian company, which already included the rights to streaming the Winx Club cartoon series and other Rainbow series in all countries where Netflix is ​​represented. The storyline of the spin-off tells the story of how the heroes of the Winx Club go on a secret mission on Earth, where under the guise of looking for children who have talents in various fields, which the creators position as a special kind of magic ^{[10] [11] [12]} . A few months before the premiere of Rainbow, the spin-off at the Licensing Expo 2016 was lit together with two other serials: The Royal Academy and Maggie and Bianca at the Academy of Fashion . During the presentation, the creators disclosed additional details of the plot, in particular, that Winx would have to face the mysterious kidnapper of talents ^{[13] [14]} . According to Christiana Butzzelli from Rainbow, the creators aimed this animated series at a more adult audience, incorporating elements of a thriller and espionage history into it ^[15] . Italian cinema resourses ^{[K 5]} draw a parallel between the setting of the series and popular talent contests like X Factor ^[15] , American Idol and “ Italy has talent for ” ^[16] , and the host of WoW Ace is compared with Morgan from the Italian jury X Factor ^{[15] [16]} .

Ella Anders from the American resource BSCKids, dedicated to children's TV series, praised the new spin-off and believes that he has returned to the roots of the first four seasons of the original Winx Club, where every moment is filled with meaning, and the story is interesting and well connected. She notes that in the animated series there is a good humor, and the heroines use their strength wisely and creatively. In addition, the author of the review highlights the elaboration of characters and their return to their primordial characters: Bloom is able to stand up for herself, Flora is habitually shy, and Leila is straightforward and can set the heat. Ella contrasts the spin-offs with the previous three seasons ^{[K 6]} of the Winx Club, which, in her opinion, had a bad script, too many fillers and melodramas, as well as poor character development ^[17] .

Emily Ashby from the American Common Sense Media site, on the one hand, notes the diversity of characters and their cohesion, and on the other hand, traditionally for this resource, expresses "deep concern" with the drawing of characters, which, according to Emily, are "superficial and obsessed with appearance" , and by their very appearance they demonstrate to the little girls a biologically impossible bodily image. The reviewer notes that the animated series will appeal to fans of the Winx Club, but is of no interest to those who are familiar with the franchise for the first time. Of the merits of the series, the Winx encourage children to use their talents, but the author describes the plot as “monotonous” and fading after a little initial intrigue ^[18] .

Despite the fact that it was originally planned to launch the series in early 2016 ^{[10] [11] [12]} , as a result, the first season debuted on the Netflix service on November 4, 2016 ^{[19] [20]} . In December 2016, shortly before the premiere on Italian television, the animated series “Winx World” was shown at the Roma Fiction Fest film festival , and the creators arranged a live performance for fans of the franchise, dressed in the manner of transformation Drimix from the series ^[15] . The premiere of the first season in Italy was held from January 28 to February 7, 2017 on Rai Gulp ^{[21] [22]} .
