About composition
“Love” was the first song written by Yuri Shevchuk upon his return from Chechnya , where he supported Russian soldiers [2] [3] . At a press conference on the release of the album, Shevchuk said that they [DDT], “finally reached the word,” and called the song light and symbolic for the group: “Now I don’t want to take part in any actions “Rock against ...” - only “Rock for ...” ” [3] .
The initial version of the composition was performed at concerts of the From and To tour of 1995 and was somewhat longer than the final version [4] . Shevchuk explained the reduction of the text, which entailed the removal of entire verses, with a desire to fit the track to the clip format; he monitored the progress of work and was constantly in touch with the director, discussing the details [2] .
The video clip for the song “Love” was shot in St. Petersburg in 1996, directed by Sergey Debizhev . The editing was done at the time when DDT musicians were working in the USA on the album [2] . A video clip saturated with special effects (not typical for the style of the group), in which the Pillar of Alexandria starts from Palace Square like a rocket , and a prostitute and a homeless person turn into a princess and a sea captain , did not leave the television screens for a long time [1] .
