Sibutu

Sibutu - the island of the Philippines , part of the province of Tavi-Tavi . Refers to the eponymous municipality. According to the 2010 census, the island’s population was 30,387 people [3] . The island is located about 14 km east of the coast of Malaysia and is one of the southernmost (and southernmost of the inhabited) islands of the archipelago. The municipality includes its territory, as well as four smaller uninhabited islands .

General Information

An area of ​​109 km². It is an important object of environmental activities [4] .

History

Due to an administrative error in the Paris Treaty, Sibut remained one of the last possessions of Spain in the Philippines.

The municipality was singled out as a separate administrative unit by law known as the Muslim Mindanao Autonomy Act No. 197 [5] , which was then approved on a plebiscite on October 21, 2006 [6] .
