Avignon Festival is a theater festival founded in 1947 by Jean Vilar (was the director of the festival until 1971 ) and held annually in the French city of Avignon .
The main festival venue is an open stage in the courtyard of the former Papal Palace , the yard itself serves as an auditorium. Performances are held in the open air, there is no curtain and scenery.
The Avignon festival traditionally attracts a large number of tourists .

- 2011 : Boris Sharmats became the main guest of the festival, his performances Levée des conflits and Flip Book were shown
- 2012 : the main guest of the festival was Simon Mc Burney , who presented his play The Master and Margarita , according to M. Bulgakov
