Biography

He came from a family of Jewish immigrants from Russia : his grandfather on the part of his father emigrated to the United States from Courland in 1897, his grandmother in 1885, and his mother's ancestors in 1905 [3] . His father, Arthur Isidore Ross (1905–1992) was an engineer, his mother Bessi Greek (1910–2002) was a housewife.

He received a bachelor of science degree with honors in physics in 1965 from the California Institute of Technology . In 1970 he was awarded the degree of Ph.D. at Harvard University [4] .

In 1975-1977 he was a professor of economics and finance at the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania . In 1977-1979 he became a professor of organization, management and economics at Yale University , in 1979-1983 he became a professor of economics and finance at the Edwin J. Baneke department, in 1984-1985 he was a professor of international trade and finance at the department named after Adrian E. Israel, 1985-1998, Sterling Professor of Economics and Finance, Yale University . In 1997–1998 he was a visiting professor at Fisher Black for finance at the MIT Sloan School of Management , and since 1998 a professor of financial economics at the Franco Modigliani Department at the MIT Sloan School of Management [4] .

Stephen Ross was a director from 1983–86, and in 1988 he was president of the , in 1986 he was a member of the social science advisory committee at the California Institute of Technology , in 1990 a member of the board of trustees of the Botner Research Institute and business . Since 1993, trustee and chairman of the investment committee of the California Institute of Technology , and in 1994 a consultant to the Japanese Association of Financial Economics. Ross is also a member of the American Academy of Arts and Sciences [4] .

Stephen died on March 3, 2017. He has a wife, Carol Ross, daughter Catherine and son Jonathan [5] .
