Burkhan Muzaffar [1] Vani is a Kashmir separatist, one of the leaders of the Hizb-ul-Mujaheddin group [2] .
Biography
He fled from home and joined the militants after he and a friend were beaten by Indian security forces . In 2015, police shot and killed his brother. Vani himself slipped away from the traps several times and was a representative of the activists of the new formation, monitoring their image as freedom fighters [3] .
He died at the age of 22. His death at the hands of Indian special forces as a result of a shootout during a special operation on July 8, 2016 caused an outbreak of violence and unrest in the region, as well as an aggravation of the conflict in Kashmir . He is described as an activist who used mainly social networks, but played the role of a symbol for young people and gained the halo of a martyr after death [4] . He was also called in the press "Kashmir Che Guevara " for his romantic image, and the Indian government had previously appointed a million rupee award for his head. At the same time, Muslim girls decorated portraits of Vanya with their portraits, and young men dreamed of being like him [3] .
After his death, Nawaz Sharif mentioned Vani in a speech at the UN General Assembly on September 21, calling him a "young leader" who became a symbol of what he called the "Kashmir intifada" [5] .
