Jean-Baptiste Arman ( fr. Jean-Baptiste Harmand ) nicknamed de la Meuse ( de la Meuse - "from Meuse"; November 10, 1751 , Suyet, Department Meuse - February 26, 1816 , Paris ) - French politician, deputy of the National Convention [3] .

Military, lawyer, magistrate. Constitutional MP from the Department of Meuse , at the trial of Louis XVI, voted for the expulsion of the king. During the Jacobin dictatorship, he practically did not distinguish himself; after the overthrow of Robespierre, he actively supported the Thermidorian reaction. He was a member of the Public Security Committee , and as such he visited the young Louis XVII in the Temple , a meeting with whom he described in his book Curious Cases Concerning Some Persons and Several Significant Events of the Revolution, published in 1814 [4] .
In 1795-1798 he was a member of the Council of Elders , then a member of the Council of Five Hundred . Supported Coup 18 Brumaire . Under Napoleon, he was the prefect of the Lower Rhine . After receiving the appointment as Consul General to Danzig , he refused to leave Paris, for which he was deprived of all posts.
He spent the rest of his life in poverty and oblivion. He was found dead on the street, with a broken face and dressed in rags.
