Biography

Hans von Helms received a certificate of maturity in 1917 in Hamburg and volunteered for the front in the First World War. After the war, he studied physics and mathematics in Hamburg, Berlin and Göttingen. In 1922 he defended his doctoral dissertation at the University of Gottingen . In 1923-1930 he was a research fellow in the field of mining. In 1930-1933 he held the position of scientific assistant in the Imperial Patent Office.

After the National Socialists came to power, Hans von Helms received the rank of regrungsrat and joined the Imperial and Prussian Ministry of the Interior as a personal assistant to the police department. Helms came into conflict with State Secretary Ludwig Grawert , wrote a complaint to him in the highest party court. In retaliation for this, Helms was transferred to a lower position in Alton , he did not agree with the transfer and from that moment entered into an implacable struggle with the bureaucracy of the Ministry of the Interior. On March 1, 1934, Helms received the title of Oberregirungsrat. In August 1934, Helms was suspected of being an agent of the assault command command and, by order of Hermann Goering, was fired from the Ministry of the Interior and fired from the party. On February 1, 1935, he was hired by the deputy Fuhrer Rudolf Hess as clerk for public service. March 29, 1936 participated in the elections to the Reichstag , received the mandate of a deputy and remained a deputy until 1945. In 1937, he was promoted to miniserialial.

In September 1939, Helms was appointed chairman of the Linz government under the Reichsstattalter of Upper Austria, and in 1940 led the military directorate of southwestern France. In 1941, he returned to the Ministry of Internal Affairs and headed the personnel department. In September 1942, Helms was appointed a member of the People's Court of Justice . From November 1944 until the end of the war in 1945, Helms led the government of Münster .

Hans von Helms joined the NSDAP and the assault forces in 1922 and was awarded the gold party badge of the NSDAP . In 1925, he rejoined the party after its reorganization, but in December 1925 he was expelled from the party card file. In April 1930 he rejoined the party. In 1935 he received the title of Reichsamstersleiter. In 1942, Helms in the assault squads received the title of SA-gruppenfuhrer.

In December 1945, Helms was arrested and placed in No. 7 internment camp in Hemer . Since 1952 he received his pension as an Oberregirungsrat. In 1956-1958, he sued the land of Lower Saxony for retaining his ranks.
