Women's European Volleyball Championship 2017

The final round of the XXX European Women's Volleyball Championship was held from September 22 to October 1, 2017 in Azerbaijan and Georgia . The championship of Serbia won the championship for the second time in history.

The tournament was attended by 16 teams: 2 host teams ( Azerbaijan and Georgia ), 5 teams that received tickets to the results of the previous European Championship ( Russia , the Netherlands , Serbia , Turkey and Germany ), 6 winners of the second round of the qualifying tournament ( Italy , Belgium , Poland , Croatia , Bulgaria and Belarus ), as well as three winners of the third round of qualification ( Czech Republic , Ukraine and Hungary ).

Qualification

The qualifying tournament was attended by 29 teams. 6 tickets to the final stage of the championship were played in the second (main) round of qualification.

The teams that took second place in the groups continued the struggle for reaching the final stage of the championship in the third round. The matches ended with the following results: Czech Republic - Slovakia - 3: 0, 2: 3, Ukraine - Spain - 2: 3, 3: 1, Romania - Hungary - 3: 0, 1: 3 (gold set - 13:15).

Final Round

The decision to hold the final round of the championship in Azerbaijan and Georgia was made on October 25, 2014 at the XXXV General Assembly of the European Volleyball Confederation in Antalya . The cities hosting the tournament matches were Baku , Goygol and Tbilisi [1] [2] . The draw took place on November 24, 2016 at the Heydar Aliyev Center in Baku [3] .

Preliminary Stage

The winners of the preliminary stage groups went directly to the quarterfinal, where they were joined by the winners of the matches of the first round of the playoffs between the teams that took 2nd and 3rd places in the groups.
