Biography
He worked at a shoe factory, played football in his free time, and skated. He became interested in wrestling in 1922. In the 1930s he was one of the strongest fighters of the USSR [2] . He participated in six championships of the USSR (1933-1939). Judge of the All-Union Category (1937).
During the Great Patriotic War, he commanded a partisan detachment in the Smolensk region . During one of the battles he was heavily shell-shocked and captured. As an officer and a communist, he was threatened with execution, which he, however, managed to avoid. After four unsuccessful escape attempts, he still managed to escape from captivity [2] .
Honorary judge of the All-Union category (1956), judge of the international category (1955). Head of the department of wrestling, dean of the sports faculty of the SCOLIFK . Coach of the USSR national freestyle wrestling team. Member of World War II . Chairman of the USSR Wrestling Federation. In 1956-1970, the vice president of the International Amateur Wrestling Federation .
He became the chairman of the Soviet Wrestling Federation and the first domestic vice-president of the International Wrestling Federation. He was one of those who prepared the Soviet wrestlers for a triumphant debut at the 1952 Olympic Games in Helsinki [2] .
