Biography
Born [3] in the village of Karino, in the family of the director of the Karin Primary Rural School. On February 15, 1938, when Edward was 7 years old, his father Salihzjan Khadiyevich and brother Shaykhulla Khadiyevich’s brother were sentenced to death by a special troop at the NKVD in the Kirov region [4] for anti-Soviet and subversive work in the school through a false denunciation . Father and uncle were shot on the same day on February 28, 1938, later both were rehabilitated [5] on July 31, 1956.
In 1953, Eduard Kasimov graduated with honors [6] from the history and philology department of Kazan State University . Then for several years he worked as a teacher in rural schools and as a correspondent for the Tatar Radio Committee. In 1957–1960, he worked in graduate school at the Institute of Language, Literature and History of the Kazan Branch of the USSR Academy of Sciences . In 1959, his first book of short stories, “Kyzyl Mayklar” (“Red Lighthouses”), was published in Kazan .
Moved from Kazan to Elabuga in 1962. Kasimov connected 10 years of his life with this city; during this time he managed to work as a teacher of Tatar folklore in the Elabuga State Pedagogical Institute (1965-1967) and become a writer. It was during the Elabuga period that Eduard Kasimov conquered Republican and All-Union fame, and the novel dedicated to the victims of the Stalinist personality cult , Homer Ike Kilmi, opened the road to them (“Life is not given twice”). The novel was published in 1964 in the journal Kazan Utlary, and this became a significant literary event in Tatarstan.
In 1963, Kasimov wrote about the fate of Abdulla Krotov in the story "Koyash con de chyga" (there are two versions of the translation into Russian - "The sun rises every day" and "Dawn is engaged"). The name Krotov is entered into the Tatar Encyclopedia as the name of a great musician, keeper and performer of Tatar folk songs. The name of this person was revealed to the public by Eduard Kasimov.
In 1964, Kasimov became a member of the Union of Writers of the USSR, and a year later he defended his thesis on the topic “Satire and Humor in Tatar Folk Tales.” It is noteworthy that it was Eduard Kasimov and the writer Sergey Efremov (1917–1965) who was then living in Elabuga helped the writer Rafael Mustafin to find Brodelschikov’s house, in which Marina Tsvetaeva’s life ended.
In 1972, Edward moved to Naberezhnye Chelny and got a job as a simple worker in one of the brigades at KamAZ to be in the thick of the events he was about to write about. In Chelny, Kasimov actively participated in the literary life of the city. There, in 1971 , at the initiative of young writers, the city literary association "Orpheus" was created. From 1972 to 1980, Kasimov was the chief consultant of the Orpheus and Leysan literary unions, which was created in 1963 under the editorship of the local newspaper Communism of Bayragi.
In 1975, a book of essays and short stories “Chally Tánary” about the first builders of KamAZ and the New City (compiled by Eduard Kasimov) was published in the Tatar book publishing house [7] .
On January 8, 1980 , by decision of the organizational meeting of local writers, the Naberezhnye Chelny writers' organization was created, and the first leader was elected writer Eduard Salihzyanovich Kasimov. In 1981, he focused entirely on writing. Dozens of essays and short stories have been written in Chelny by Kasimov.
Edward Kasimov died suddenly in the spring of 1986 . Writers, poets of the city of Makhmut Gazizov, Khanif Khusnullin, Kaidyr Sibgatullin and others recalled with great warmth his contribution to the cause of their development in literature. The novel about KAMAZ youth “Shinmesen gelleren” (“Let the flowers not wither”) came out a few months after his death.
In 2005 in Chelny in the Central City Library. M. Jalil held a literary and artistic evening dedicated to the 75th anniversary of Eduard Kasimov.
