During the trial of Louis XVI, he voted for death without appeal or adjournment. After the murder, Lepeliete reported to the Convention on the circumstances of the death of the deputy. As a personal friend of Marat Mor, he visited him on July 12, 1793, when the latter was lying in a healing bath. On the evening of July 13, while Mor and his deputy, David, were reporting at the Jacobin Club about the health status of the Friend of the people, the news of Marat’s murder spread. Pestilence took part in the first interrogation of Charlotte Corday , who was detained at the crime scene, and then transferred her to the prison of Saint Germain Abbey.

In the fall of 1793, he cultivated the Cult of Reason in the departments of Seine and Marne and Yonne , and participated in the de-Christianization . He survived during the Thermidorian coup , although he was counted among the "terrorists" and "Robespierre’s eagerness." But his end was already a foregone conclusion.
