Biography
He studied at one of the monasteries in his homeland in Croatia , and later in Italy under the guidance of Giulio Romano .
Clovio was for some time a court painter of the Hungarian king in Ofen, after which, having tonsured monks, he lived in Mantua and Rome , where his talent flourished thanks to the study of the work of Michelangelo . He became famous for his excellent miniatures , which, by order of the sovereign persons, noble persons and wealthy monasteries, decorated prayer books, liturgical books and other manuscripts.
Creativity
His main works are miniatures of the magnificent canon of the Theotokos made for Cardinal Farnese (The Hourly Book of Farnese ), Crucifixion with the upcoming Mary Magdalene (in the Pitti Gallery in Florence ), and Our Lady Mourning the Savior, taken from the Cross (in the Uffizi Gallery, in Florence), “Scenes from the Life of Emperor Charles V” (at the British Museum in London ), illustrations for Dante 's “Divine Comedy” (at the Vatican Library in Rome ), etc.
