Georgdor , Georgsdor ( German: Georgdor ) - gold coins of the Duchy of the Elector of Braunschweig-Luneburg (Hanover) and the Kingdom of Hanover of the 18th-19th centuries.
Officially, the kings of Great Britain , who did not actually appear in their European possessions, were the rulers of Hanover in the 18th century. Hanover's monetary system was different from the British. Until 1803, gold pistols were produced in the country with a content of 6.05 g of pure gold and a nominal value of 5 thalers . On the obverse was a portrait and / or title of King George III because of which they got their name.
During the Napoleonic Wars in 1803, the electorate of Hanover was occupied by French troops. The release of daisies was discontinued. Their coinage was resumed in 1813. It is noteworthy that the coins of 1813-1815 were minted in the UK [1] [2] . These gorgordors contained 5.95 g of pure gold [2] [3] . After the final victory over Napoleon, the gold content in georgors was increased to 6.032 g, so that it was equal to Friedrichsdor [3] .
Since 1833 [4], the gold content in georgors was again reduced to 5.957 g while maintaining the nominal value. Although it brought the state revenue of 200 thousand thalers , it undermined the credibility of this currency [3] . The last issue of the dahlias was dated 1856 [5] .
