Economism :
1. The form of economic reductionism in sociology is the reduction of the explanation of any social, political and cultural reality to an economic basis - the ratio of supply and demand , while denying to some extent the independent role of other factors. (For example, faith in the "invisible hand of the market" of neoliberals . Do not confuse economism with economic determinism , which is a necessary aspect of economism.
2. The ideological and political current in Russian social democracy (late XIX - early XX centuries). The proponents of economism, under the intellectual influence of E. Bernstein , sought to subordinate the tactics and organization of social democracy to the struggle for the economic and social interests of the working class. “Economists" believed that workers should not come up with their own political program in the coming revolution . According to proponents of economism, their task was to become the economic struggle and support the liberal political program in their struggle against tsarism . In this sense, the term was actively used later by Charles Bettelheim . Leaders: B. N. Krichevsky [1] , E. A. Kuskova , A. S. Martynov , S. N. Prokopovich , K. M. Takhtarev and others. Press: newspaper “ Working Thought ” (St. Petersburg , Berlin, Warsaw, Geneva, 1897–1902), the journal “ Work Case ” (Geneva, 1899–1902).
