Biography

The son of Count Philippe de Lin and Margarita de Lalen, ladies de Ville and Pomeroy. Marquis de Roubaix, Count de Fockemberg, sovereign Fenyol, Baron de Beleuil, Antoine and Wassenar, Seneschal and Marshal Hainaut , horse-commander and standard bearer of Flanders .

He was an extraordinary ambassador to the courts of Louis XIII and Sigismund III , a nobleman of the chamber of Albrecht of Austria , a member of the state council of Albrecht and Isabella , and captain of an ordinance company of 50 heavily armed horsemen.

He performed diplomatic missions at the court of Emperor Rudolph II and in Madrid.

He began his military career at the age of 18, taking part in the sieges of Tournai and Saint-Gislen in 1581, and in the troops of the Duke of Parma . He participated in the siege of Antwerp , the defense of Nimwegen in 1591 and Rouen in 1594. The following year, under the command of Count Fuentes, he was under sieges of Cambrai and Chatelet. In 1597, Arras , besieged by Henry IV , bravely defended. In 1602 he accompanied the Archduke to assist Hertogenbosch .

In 1599 he was granted the title of knight of the Order of the Golden Fleece by Philip III .

On March 20, 1601, Rudolph II in Prague elevated Lamoral de Lin to the dignity of the imperial prince , and on August 2, 1602, natural Germanic princes recognized the building of the county of Lin to the rank of principality. The king of Spain elevated Lamoral to the rank of the 1st class hereditary grandeur.

In 1598, Lamoral de Lin was appointed interim governor of Artois , to replace Charles de Croy , Prince de Chime. The following year, he was replaced in this position by Florent de Burlemont .

On June 29, 1610, prince de Lin was appointed governor and captain-general of Artois, in 1623 he received the posts of great balla and captain-general Hainaut, instead of Jean de Croy , Count de Solre, who ruled the county during the interim period. I did not manage to take office, but his name appears in a patent issued to his successor.
