The fontanel area is framed.
The sphenoid fontanel or anterolateral fontanel ( Latin fonticulus sphenoidalis ) is a connective tissue site on the non-ossified roof of the human skull , located in the anterior section of the lateral surfaces of the skull at the junction of the large wing of the sphenoid bone with the frontal , temporal and parietal bones. This fontanel is a pair. Front and top, it is bounded by the frontal and parietal bones, and below - by the large wing of the sphenoid bone and the scaly part of the temporal bone. The fontanel has an irregular quadrangular shape [1] .
The sphenoid fontanel will overgrow shortly after birth - usually in the second or third month of life [2] . Sometimes it can overgrow even at the end of the prenatal period.
