Biography
Seeds Klimovsky for a long time was considered a legendary person [2] . Reliable data about him almost did not survive. It is known that he was born at the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries, according to updated data - about 1705 in Slobozhanshchina (northeast of modern Ukraine) [1] . According to other sources, he was born earlier - between 1690 - 1700 years [3] .
Little is also known about the early years of Semyon Klimovsky. Perhaps he received his education at the Kiev-Mohyla Academy [2] . Nevertheless, in the book “Kyiv-Mohyla Academy in Names. XVII — XVIII centuries. ”It is not mentioned [4] . N. M. Karamzin considered Semyon Klimovsky as a talented author, describing him as “a student of nature, unfortunately not learned from art” [5] . At the same time, the question of the education of S. Klimovsky remains open, since from his works it is noticeable that he was fluent in foreign languages, philosophy and literature. Among poets, Horace had the greatest influence on his works.
however, this was the first person in the history of Sloboda and Left-Bank Ukraine, who can be called a writer to some extent. Literary works were created on the territory of the Hetman and Slobozhanshchina earlier, but usually these were things written “on occasion” by competent people who did not do any kind of literature all the time. From such authors (for example, Ornovsky, Filippovich, Vitinsky ) usually came one at a time, at least two works, and biographical information also remained minimal. Sergey Klimovsky, who signed his works as “Cossack-poet”, although he did not hide his real name, was engaged in writing for many years [6] . Like all educated people of that time, his formation was connected with the Kiev-Mohyla Academy, in which he studied and which significantly influenced his philosophical views. His works testify to the significant influence of classical literature and philosophy. Of particular note is the spiritual influence of Horace. Despite the fact that the exact dates of the writer's life are unknown, it is believed that he lived a long life and was still alive at the end of the 18th century. He spent the end of his life in the Kherson province, where, together with his comrades, he founded the Pryputni farm. On October 14, 2003, a monument to Semyon Klimovsky was erected on the site of this farm.

Treatise Review
The language of Klimovsky was close to the language of the works of Skovoroda - in general, the Russian literary language of that time, with numerous Church Slavisms , as well as interspersed with Ukrainianisms . Separate lyric works are written entirely in spoken Ukrainian . The philosophical poetic treatises "On the truth and generosity of benefactors" and "On the justice of the rulers" are original and interesting from many points of view. “The tsar without truth is dead,” Klimovsky wrote. Darkness, falsehood, malice, moral ailments - this is what accompanies neglect of the truth. In this he is close to the Jewish religious and philosophical literature of the era of the Second Temple. He was probably familiar with the latter thanks to the Kiev-Mogilev Academy. “He who loves the truth” is not worthy to be a king, his power has no moral foundation. Grace from heaven will be shed only on those who undertake the work of truth. “It is better to endure the truth with hunger in the poor, than not to have the king of the truth,” he echoes the Prophet Amos.
