Safflower ( lat. Cárthamus ) - a genus of flowering plants of the Astrov family . It counts 48 ^[2] species widespread in the Mediterranean , Near East and Central Asia .

One and biennial herbaceous plants. In culture in America, Eurasia, Australia, safflower dyeing ( Carthamus tinctorius ) is grown.

Oilseeds, medicinal, dyeing and fodder plants.
