Biography
N.K. Svobodin was born on May 8 (20), 1898 in the village of Uzmorye, Novouzensk district of the Samara province (now Engels district of the Saratov region ). In 1917-1919 - artist and director at the Political Education Theater and instructor at the People's Theater of the Public Education Department of Novouzensk . In 1919-1921 he played at the A.V. Lunacharsky Theater and taught at the School of Acting in Pokrovsk . In 1921, he was the head of the theater department of the Gubpolitprosvet in Kharkov. In 1921-1925 - actor and chief director of the Theater of Working Youth in Kharkov. In 1925 he graduated from the Higher Theater Workshops at the Maly Theater and joined the troupe of the Studio Theater of the Maly Theater (since 1932 the New Theater ). Since 1938, the actor of the Moscow Art Theater named after Gorky . He played mainly the roles of negative heroes - arrogant aristocrats, royal dignitaries, etc. Despite the well-known limitations of his role, the artist found a new stage design for each role, achieved a sharp and vivid characterization of the character. In 1934-1941 he taught at the GITIS named after A.V. Lunacharsky , in 1963-1964 at the VGIK .
Twice was a deputy of the Sverdlovsk District Council of Moscow.
N.K. Svobodin died on September 20, 1965 . He was buried in Moscow in the columbarium of the Novodevichy cemetery .
