The general elections in Equatorial Guinea were held on September 22 , in which the National Assembly and the President of Equatorial Guinea were elected (first round - September 22 , second round - September 29. Winning the second round in the presidential election - Francisco Macias Nguema Biiyo Niege Ndong , defeating the prime minister MINISTER Bonifacio Ondo Edu . After the first round were eliminated Antas Ndongo Mion , who later became the first foreign Minister of Equatorial Guinea, and Edmundo boss is the first vice-president. Bonifacio Ondo soon n follows the election was executed.
To date, these were the only free elections in Equatorial Guinea . Over the next five years, Masias Nguema consolidated his power step by step, and by 1973 he declared himself President-for-Life with an almost absolute power. Also, the party of Masias Nguema, United National Party of Workers - PUNT, in all legislative elections of any kind in the country won an absolute victory until 1983 .
