Modern Coat of Arms

Description

Used in two forms:

The small coat of arms is a shield of rounded shape, on which in a gold field is depicted a blue overturned fork-shaped cross, cutting off the red sector from below. In the center of the shield is a black outline of the fortress of St. Elizabeth , in the golden field of which is the red monogram of St. Elizabeth. The shield is inscribed in a silver cartouche and crowned with a golden city crown.

The large coat of arms consists of a small coat of arms, with shield holders located on the sides - two silver storks. Under the shield are golden ears of corn and a decorative branch, entwined with a blue ribbon with the motto “With Peace and Good” (in Ukrainian: Peace and Good ), made of gold.

Composition

The coat of arms includes elements of previous symbols of the city. The golden ear along with the golden field on the shield symbolize the wealth and fertility of the steppe surrounding the city, the red field indicates the location of the fortress and the city on the lands of the Zaporizhzhya Army . The blue fork-shaped cross symbolizes the Ingul , Sugokleia and Biyanka rivers, at the merger of which the fortress was built. Shield-holding storks point to the legendary personality of the Cossack Leleka ( Ukrainian: Leleka - Stork), the founder of the farm Lelekovka, which later became part of the city. The Golden Crown Tower suggests that this emblem belongs to a city of regional (regional) level.

In the 2nd floor. XIX century, the city authorities of Elisavetgrad received an offer from a well-known reformer in the field of Russian heraldry, manager of the Coat of Arms of the Department of Bernhard Vasilievich Köhne to consider a new project of the city coat of arms: in the red box there is a golden six-ray star through, in the center of which is the monogram of Elizaveta Petrovna. In the free part of the coat of arms is the coat of arms of the Kherson province , which included the city. The shield was crowned with a silver city crown with three turrets and framed by two golden spikelets entwined with the Alexander ribbon .

The project was not accepted.

Emblem of the Soviet period

The emblem of Kirovograd during the USSR (technically it was not a coat of arms, since it contradicted most of the canons of heraldry) was approved by the Kirovograd Council of Workers' Deputies on January 4, 1969. Its author was the architect L. E. Rastrygin. The emblem had the following form: in the azure shield - golden ears of corn and a golden half of the gear (symbols of agriculture and agricultural machinery) on it. On the gear is the black name of the city in Ukrainian. In the upper part, intersected with red and azure colors (repeating the colors of the flag of the Ukrainian SSR ), there is a silver circle with a golden sickle and hammer. In the green base there is a golden antique cannon with three cores (a symbol of the historical past of the city).
