John Sargent Pillsbury ( 1827-1901 ) is an American industrialist, co-founder of Pillsbury , also a statesman and philanthropist.

Biography
Born July 29, 1827 in Sutton, Merrimack County, New Hampshire, in the family of John Pillsbury and Susan Wadleigh . He was a descendant of Joshua Pillsbury, who emigrated from England to the city of Newburyport , Massachusetts in 1640.
In 1851, Pillsbury opened a store in Warner, New Hampshire, and collaborated with , the future Governor of New Hampshire and a member of the US Civil War . In 1855, John arrived in Minnesota and settled in St. Anthony ( St. Anthony , now part of Minneapolis ). He tried his hand in various types of business - he was engaged in the supply of equipment, real estate, timber sales, eventually becoming a co-founder of Pillsbury along with his nephew Charles Pillsbury , whose name the company was named after. John Pillsbury was educated at the University of Minnesota , where he joined the Chi Psi fraternity .
After the Civil War, Pillsbury was elected a member of the 3rd Class Military Order of the Loyal Legion of the United States . United States. He worked for several years in the Senate of Minnesota before becoming the 8th governor of Minnesota . He served in this post from January 7, 1876 to January 10, 1882.
John Pillsbury was known as a philanthropist who preferred to donate anonymously. In particular, he helped the University of Minnesota in collecting debts from him in the early years of his existence, and then served as a university regent (chairman of the board of trustees). Was known as the "Father of the University." One of the premises of this educational institution was named after him - Pillsbury Hall . [one]
Died October 18, 1901 in Minneapolis, Minnesota. He was buried at the Lakewood Cemetery city cemetery. [2]
Family
November 3, 1856, John Pillsbury married Magala Fisk ( born Mahala Fisk Pillsbury [3] , 1832-1910 [4] ). They had four children:
