FA Cup 1896/1897

FA Cup 1896/97 ( FA FA 1896–97 ) is the 26th draw of the oldest cup football tournament, the Football Association Cup, better known as the FA Cup . The winner of the tournament was the Birmingham club Aston Villa , who beat in the final match Everton 3–2. Aston Villa also won the league title this season and became the second club in the history of English football to win a double (victories in the championship and the FA Cup).

Round One

In the first round, 32 teams played, including 10 winners of the fifth qualifying round, as well as 16 teams from the First Division and 6 teams from the Second Division ( Notts County , Small Heath , Burton Wanderers , Grimsby Town , Newcastle United and Manchester City ). The remaining teams of the Second Division played in qualifying rounds, of which only Newton Heat and Burton Swifts qualified for the first round. Also in this round played 8 clubs that were not members of the Football League, but passed qualifying rounds.

The final took place on April 10, 1897 at the London Crystal Palace Stadium. It met " Aston Villa " from Birmingham and " Everton " from Liverpool . The victory with a score of 3: 2 won the Birmingham club. Villa won the double this season, also becoming the champion of England .
