South Africa national football team at the 2010 World Championships

The South African national football team for the third time in its history took part in the World Cup in 2010. The team qualified in the final part of the mundial as the hostess of the championship, therefore, did not participate in the qualifying tournament, although it took part in the qualification for the African Cup of Nations, which was associated with the selection for the 2010 World Cup. In the final part, the South African team took third place in their group, without leaving the group, thus becoming the first team to not leave the group at the home world championship.

Election of the 2010 FIFA World Cup organizer

On May 8, 2004, South Africa was selected by FIFA as the organizer of the 2010 World Cup. Rivals of South Africa for the World Cup were Morocco and Egypt. South Africa won the first round, gaining a majority of the votes of the FIFA Executive Committee.
