Abovyan Street ( Arm. Աբովյան փողոց ) is a street in the central area of Yerevan, Kentron , from Republic Square to Alexander Myasnikyan Avenue. Landmark of the city [1] .

History
Named in 1920 in honor of the prominent Armenian poet Khachatur Abovyan . The previous name (1868-1920) - Astafyevskaya - was given in honor of the Erivan governor (1860-1869) Mikhail Astafyev .
Until 1868 it was called the Fortress.
One of the oldest streets in Yerevan, widened and straightened, was preserved during the reconstruction of the city according to the master plan of Alexander Tamanyan (1924). In 1933, the line of the first Yerevan tram passed along the street [2] .
The famous Armenian businessman and public figure Khachatur Sukiasyan took part in the reconstruction of buildings on the street.
