Starboy is the third studio album by Canadian singer The Weeknd . Its release took place on November 25, 2016; releasing labels - XO and Republic Records . [14] On the record as guests appear: Daft Punk , Lana Del Rey , Future and Kendrick Lamar . The lead single is the eponymous song released on September 22, 2016.

Creation
After the commercial success of his album for 2015, Beauty Behind the Madness Weeknd hinted at the release of his third studio album on March 12, 2016, in his Instagram account marking the beginning of the next “Chapter” in his work. [15] On August 24, 2016, Republic Records Executive Vice President Wendy Goldstein confirmed Wicknd’s collaboration with French electronic duo Daft Punk in an interview with Billboard magazine. [16] [17] On September 7, 2016, it was confirmed that the album was in production, from an interview with VMAN , influenced by Prince , The Smiths , Talking Heads and Bad Brains . [18] On September 21, 2016, the album itself, like its name, were officially announced, [19] with a release date set for November 25, 2016.
Promotion
Singles
September 22, 2016 the first single “ Starboy ” was released in digital format in music stores and streaming services. The song was recorded with the assistance of the French electronic duo Daft Punk . On September 28, 2016, an official video clip was presented to her. [20]
On September 29, the release of the song “ False Alarm ” (from the English - “False Alarm”) was held in digital format - as a promotional single. [21] On October 13, a video clip was released for the song, filmed by director Ilya Naishuller. [22] On November 17, 2016, The Weeknd released two more promotions: “Party Monster” and “I Feel It Coming” - the last with the participation of Daft Punk.
Live performances
The weekend was a musical guest at the premiere of Season 42, Saturday Night Live , on October 1. To promote the album, he performed the songs “Starboy” and “False Alarm”, and also starred in the sketch “The Weeknd Update”, where he admitted that he had a haircut. [23] [24]
Short film
On November 23, 2016, Weeknd released a 12-minute short film to promote the album, directed by Grant Singer, who also shot a music video for Starboy. Named Mania (styled MANIA ) [25] , it includes the songs “All I Know” (under Future ), “Sidewalks” (under Kendrick Lamar ), “Secrets”, “Die for You”, “Party Monster” "(With backing vocals of Lana Del Rey ) and" I Feel It Coming "(under the teachings of Daft Punk ). He photographed the cover and designed it Nabil Elderkin . [27] It depicts a Weekend with shortened hair in a bowed pose with a chain with a cross, illuminated by the rays of blue neon in front of a pink background. The album name is displayed in yellow letters at the top of the image, and the borders are strewn with grainy blue neon.
