Ornithology

Among the tasks of ornithology: the study of species diversity and the number of individuals in the study area, the study of the taxonomy , ethology , physiology and ecology of birds ( banding of birds , bird migration ), phenology of birds, the protection of rare species ( death of birds on power lines , artificial nesting for birds , ornithological wildlife preserves ), propaganda ( World Migratory Bird Day, Bird Day , International Bird Day, Ornithologist Day , Bird of the Year in Russia ) and much more.

Research is conducted in many ways. The simplest is surveillance ( birdwatching ).

Some studies are conducted using the bird banding method. For this, birds are caught with special nets or cages ^[2] , put on rings and released.

About a hundred specialized ornithological journals are published in the world, including:

• The Menzbirovsky Ornithological Society of Russia at the Russian Academy of Sciences , was established in 1992 on the basis of the All-Union Ornithological Society (1983-1991). The central council is in Moscow. In 1993 there were about 1,500 members. Named after Academician M. A. Menzbir [8]

• Lev Boehme (1895-1954) - Russian ornithologist, professor.
• Valentin Lvovich Bianchi (1857-1920) - post of head of the Department of Ornithology of the Zoological Institute from 1896 to 1920.
• Sergey Alexandrovich Buturlin (1872-1938) - Russian ornithologist and traveler.
• Mikhail Alexandrovich Menzbir (1885-1935) - founder of Russian ornithology, academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences .
• Pavel Vladimirovich Serebrovsky (1888-1942) - an ornithologist, zoogeographer and paleontologist, professor, headed the Department of Ornithology of the Zoological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1928 to 1940; died in the besieged Leningrad ^[6] .
• Pyotr Petrovich Sushkin (1868-1928) - head of the ornithological department of the Zoological Museum of the USSR Academy of Sciences (1920-1928), academician of the USSR Academy of Sciences .
• Arkady Yakovlevich Tugarinov (1880-1948) - ornithologist, doctor of biological sciences, professor, head of the ornithology department of the Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1940-1948).
• Leonid Mikhailovich Shulpin (1905-1942) - researcher of the avifauna of the Far East and the Tien Shan , author of the first textbook on ornithology.

• Irina Rurikovna Boehme (born 04.09.1954) - Professor
• Rurik L. Boehme (1927-2000) - Head of the Ornithological Laboratory of Moscow State University in 1976-2000. ^[7]
• Konstantin Nikolaevich Blagosklonov (1910-1985) - author of 600 articles on ornithology and bird protection.
• Lyudmila Sergeevna Bogoslovskaya (1937–2015) - Doctor of Biological Sciences, Head of the Center for the Traditional Culture of Nature Management ( D.S. Likhachev Russian Research Institute for Cultural and Natural Heritage ), researcher of seabird colonies, nesting sites for near-water and rare species in the Arctic and Subarctic.
• Vladimir Trofimovich Butyev (born 1932) is an ornithologist, teacher, specialist in rare species of birds of the Non-Black Earth Center of Russia.

• Vasily Fedorovich Gavrin (02/28/1918 - 06/27/1975) - candidate of biological sciences (1956), hunting expert, ornithologist.
• Vladimir Mikhailovich Galushin (born 1932) is a major expert on birds of prey.
• Nikolai Alekseevich Gladkov (1905-1975) - headed the department of ornithology of the Zoo Museum of Moscow State University. Co-author of the “Key to Birds of the USSR” (1948), reports “Birds of the Soviet Union” (1951-1954), State Prize Laureate; among his students N. N. Drozdov .
• Georgy Petrovich Dementiev (1898-1969) - creator of the ornithological laboratory of Moscow State University, professor, State Prize Laureate, Honored Scientist of the RSFSR.
• Victor Rafaelievich Dolnik (1938–2013) - professor at the Zoological Institute of the Academy of Sciences of the USSR (1983), member of the Russian Academy of Natural Sciences (2004).
• Alexey Alexandrovich Estafiev (1941—2016) - Doctor of Biological Sciences (1999). Laureate of the State Prize of the Komi Republic in the field of science.
• Alexander Ivanovich Ivanov (1902-1987) - headed the Department of Ornithology of the Zoological Institute of the USSR Academy of Sciences from 1949 to 1969.

• Yuri Andreevich Isakov (1912-1988) - Soviet ornithologist, together with V. E. Flint and other authors participated in the preparation of the multi-volume monograph “Birds of the USSR”, the development of the concept of this publication.
• Boris Alexandrovich Kazakov (1938-2006) - an ornithologist, a leading bird explorer in the North Caucasus.
• Nikolai Nikolaevich Kartashev (1919-1979) - Associate Professor, author of the books “Systematics of Birds” (1974) and “General Ornithology” (1982).

• Alexey Vasilievich Mikheev (1907-1999) - Soviet and Russian zoologist-ornithologist, founder of ecological ornithology, doctor of biological sciences (1963), professor; student of A. N. • Vladimir Aleksandrovich Paevsky (born 1937) is a Russian ornithologist, a leading expert on world-class bird demography, Doctor of Biological Sciences, chief researcher at the Zoological Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences, an honorary member of the American Union of Ornithologists (AOU) ^[9] .
• Evgeny Nikolaevich Panov (born 1936) is a leading specialist in bird behavior.

• Evgeny Pavlovich Spangenberg (1898-1968) - Associate Professor of Moscow State University, awarded the Stalin Prize for his work as part of the creative team of the Moscow State Museum Museum on a summary of “Birds of the Soviet Union” (1951-1954).
• Leo Surenovich Stepanyan (1931-2002) - a leading taxonomist of birds in the USSR and Russia at the end of the 20th century.
