Biography
Jan Fandray was born on December 11, 1991 in the city of Schwedt , state of Brandenburg . He began to actively engage in rowing from early childhood, was trained in Potsdam in the sports club of the same name under the guidance of coach Ralph Wielke.
He made his international debut in the 2009 season, when he visited the Junior World Championships and competed in races of 500 and 1000 meters, taking fourth and fifth places in these disciplines, respectively. In 2012 and 2013, he participated in the youth championships of Europe and the world, won them silver dignity awards among single canoes.
The first serious success at the adult international level was achieved in the 2016 season, when he joined the German national team and thanks to a series of successful appearances, he was awarded the right to defend the country's honor at the Rio de Janeiro Summer Olympics . Together with the titled team-mate Sebastian Brendel, he started in the standings of double canoes at a distance of 1000 meters - they qualified from the first place at the preliminary stage and thereby immediately got into the main final “A”. In the final decisive race, they also came to the finish line first, ahead of Brazilian closest pursuers Erlon Silva and Isakias Keyros for almost a second, and won Olympic gold medals [1] .
