Ignatov, Vasily Nikolaevich

Vasily Nikolayevich Ignatov (October 1854 , Belev - November 1884 , Nice ) - a leader of the Russian and international socialist movement. The maternal uncle of the Russian writer Mikhail Mikhailovich Prishvin .

Born in the family of the second guild merchant N.I. Ignatov. Student of the Technological Institute, then the veterinary department of the Medical and Surgical Academy. Member of the "going to the people" of 1876 . Participated in the Kazan demonstration , sent to his homeland. In March 1877 , Ignatov received permission to return to Petersburg and enter the Academy again. Member of the main circle of " Earth and Freedom ", supported the organization with his own funds. In the spring of 1877 he was arrested in Moscow in the case of the Society of Friends, but due to lack of direct evidence, he was released under the secret surveillance of the police. In 1879 , after the split of " Earth and Freedom ", V.N. Ignatov joined the organization " Black Redistribution ", at the cash desk of which he contributes most of the inheritance share received after his father’s death.

At the beginning of 1880 he emigrated from Russia forever. One of the founders of the Emancipation of Labor group.

Ignatov often denied everything he needed, giving almost all his money to public needs and did not think about his own health. As a result, after the sale of a fur coat, he fell ill with pneumonia.

Shortly before his death, he bequeathed to the Emancipation of Labor group the insignificant funds remaining from him for treatment. He died in Nice in November 1884 at the age of 30.
