Clarendon is a city in the United States , located in the northern part of the state of Texas , in the Texas Ledge . The city is the administrative center of Donley County. According to the census for 2010, the number of residents was 2026 people, according to the US Census Bureau in 2015, 1,944 people lived in the city [1] .

Content
History
Clarendon, along with the towns of Mobitie in Wheeler and Tuscos County in Oldham , was one of the first cities in the Texas Protrusion. The city was founded in 1878, before the advent of Amarillo .
The city was founded by a Methodist church minister L.H. Karthart, who planned the city as a “sobriety settlement” as opposed to fast-growing towns, near which mineral resources were found. Because of this, the local cowboys gave the town the nickname “Sacred Perch” ( English Sant Roost ), from which came the unusual name of the museum: Saints' Roost Museum [2] .
In 1882, Donley County was founded, and Clarendon became the administrative center of the city [3] .
In 1887, most residents voted to move their homes and businesses 10 kilometers to the south, due to the fact that the Fort Worth - Denver railway passed there [3] [4] .
Geography
Clarendon is located in the southwest of Donley County, its coordinates are: [5] . The city is located about 100 kilometers east of Amarillo and 90 north-west of Childress.
According to the US Census Bureau , the area of the city is 7.8 square kilometers, 7.5 of which are land, and 0.3 is water surface [6] .

According to the 2010 census, in 2010, the city had 2,026 people, 786 households, and 490 families. The racial makeup of the city: 86.7% are whites, 7.9% are black, 0.4% are Native Americans, 0.4% are Asians, 0.1% are residents of Hawaii or Oceania, 2.4% are other race, 2% - two or more races. The number of Hispanic inhabitants of any races was 9.2% [10] .
Of the 786 households, 25.1% live children under 18 years old. In 47.6% of cases, married couples live in the household, 11.1% - households without men, 37.7% - non-family households. 34.9% of households are single people, 17.8% are single people over 65 years old. The average household size is 2.27 people. The average family size is 2.91 [10] .
31.2% of the population of the city is under 20 years old, 23.5% are between the ages of 20 and 39, 22.7% are between 40 and 64, 17.7% are 65 and older. The average age is 35.2 years [10] .
According to surveys of five years from 2010 to 2014, the average household income in Clarendon is $ 34,659 per year, the average family income is $ 47,014. The per capita income in the city is $ 17,748. About 15.1% of families and 17.9% of the population are below the poverty line. Including 27.8% under the age of 18 years and 16.8% aged 65 and older [11] .

Infrastructure and transportation
Through the city pass the US 287 highway and 70 Texas state highway. 27 kilometers north of the city passes the interstate highway I-40 .
The city has the Smiley-Johnson / Bass Field Municipal Airport, which has a 1,370-meter asphalt runway [13] . The closest airport for commercial passenger flights is the Rick Hasbanda International Airport at Amarillo.
Education
The city is served by the Clarendon United Independent School District.
Clarendon College is also located in the city. Establishment, established in 1898, is the oldest institution of Texas protrusion. Initially, the college was affiliated with the Methodist church.
Recreation and Entertainment
The local Saints' Roost Museum has a collection of early life artifacts , as well as materials about Charles Goodnaite, Harold Bagby, the Red River War , and the Fort Worth-Denver Railway Depot.
