Nikonov, Alexander Petrovich

Alexander Petrovich Nikonov (born August 13, 1964 , Moscow ) is a Russian journalist , publicist and writer . Author of several books on social, historical and natural science topics. He was published in the newspapers Moskovsky Komsomolets , Moskovskaya Komsomolka [1] , Trud , Stolichnaya Gazeta , Night Rendezvous [2] , Postscript , Ogonyok , and Stolitsa magazines. He actively advocates the legalization of prostitution , soft drugs , short-barreled weapons and euthanasia of newborns with genetic disorders at the request of parents. Adheres to the right-liberal [3] , transhumanistic and libertarian beliefs [4] .

In 1986 he graduated from the Moscow Institute of Steel and Alloys (MISiS).

Chairman of the Atheistic Society of Moscow (AtOM) [6] .

From June 2013 to May 2015, he was chairman of the Federal Political Council of the Russia Without Obscurantism Party registered in 2012 [7] .

From December 3, 2018 to February 14, 2019, he was one of the hosts of the “Polite People” program on NTV Channel [8] . She also takes part in a talk show of the same TV channel “Meeting Place” with Andrei Norkin [9] .

Mother Project

Together with Dmitry Bykov, on April 1, 1995, he published an appendix to the weekly Sobesednik , the “abusive newspaper” “Mother” [10] , and led the corresponding column in the newspaper Novy Vzglyad , was a defendant (together with Bykov) in a criminal case for using foul language in print [11] [12] . The chapters of his first book “Upgrade Monkeys” were published in the newspaper Novy Vzglyad and the magazine Secret & Mystery .

Book Ban

In September 2009, the St. Petersburg prosecutor’s office ordered A. Nikonov’s book “ Upgrade of the Monkey ” to be withdrawn from sale (according to the prosecutor’s office, the book calls for the legalization of drugs). A year later, a re-release of the “Upgrade” was released entitled “The Crown of Creation in the Interior of the Universe,” supplemented and improved in comparison with the original book and without the scandalous chapter on drugs [13] .

Euthanasia Publication

In February 2010, the Civic Chamber of the Russian Federation and the Union of Russian Journalists (JJR) discussed Nikonov’s article entitled “Finish so you don’t suffer”, published in December 2009 by Speed-Info newspaper, in which the journalist suggested giving parents the right to use euthanasia the birth of children with some incurable brain pathologies (not allowing the formation of a full-fledged personality in the child), calling such children "blanks for the future personality" and "defective diskettes" [14] . The publication caused a wide public outcry [15] . The press began to persecute Nikonov [16] [17] . Following the meeting of the public collegium on complaints about the press, the SJR decided that the article “is on the verge of extremism” and also written “unprofessionally” [18] . The journalist Alexander Minkin, on the air of Ekho Moskvy radio station, demanded that “AIDS-info“ be closed to hell ” [19] . The economist Irina Yasina said about Nikonov: “How you want for him not only moral condemnation, but also a real sentence” [20] . Some colleagues ( Alexei Venediktov , Evgeny Dodolev , Victor Loshak , Pavel Sheremet ) defended the journalist, as they considered that freedom of speech was violated [21] .
