Atlantis (Atlantis FC) is a Finnish football club from the city of Helsinki. In the 2016 season, he performs in Kakkonen , the third highest football league in Finland.
The club was formed at the end of 1995 as a result of the merger of the clubs “Johanneksen Dinamo” (founded in 1980) and “Norssi AS” (founded in 1985). The name Atlantis FC was coined by Jost Sundquist, vocalist of the group Leevi and the Leavings.
The team started playing in the Finnish third-level football league (Kakkonen) in 1996, in 1997 it went to Jukkönen . In 1999, the club participated in the play-offs for entering the big league ( Veikkausliga ), but lost to the team Vaasan Palloseura . The following year, "Atlantis" was able to get into the big leagues. In 2001 Atlantis took the seventh place in the championship and won the Finnish Cup.
In 2002, the club was in a difficult financial situation and went bankrupt. His place in the big leagues was given to the AU Allianssi club. The Atlantis reserve team, Atlantis Acatemia, was able to continue their performance in the third league. In 2003, it changed its name to Atlantis FC, and in 2004 the “new” Atlantis went to Jukkönen. In 2009, he again sank in Kakkonen.
