Australian Center for Contemporary Art

The Australian Center for Contemporary Art (ACCA; Australian Center for Contemporary Art ) is one of the main galleries of contemporary art in Melbourne, Australia. The center is located on Sturt Street in the , in the . The center building was built of wood by the architects Roger and Randall Marshev. Construction work was completed in 2002. Project customers were , ACCA, and the . In 2003, the authors of the project were awarded the Institutional Architecture Prize and the Australian State Prize for the building of the center [1] .

In December 2015, Max Delaney became the new artistic director of ACCA, replacing Julian Engberg, the former artistic director [2] .

ACCA consists of four large exhibition halls. The building, together with the neighboring Molthouse Theater, forms the courtyard in the center of the complex, which is used as an open-air exhibition space. ACCA also has two rehearsal studios and a number of administrative facilities for the Chunkey Moov dance company and the Playbox Seater Company theater company.

The rust-colored façade is built in a minimalist style to support a wide range of installations. It contrasts with metal and glass surfaces in the interior. The project refers to the European museum model of Kunsthalle , that is, it claims to be a flexible shell for displaying art [3] .

In the first decade after the opening, the ACCA collection included more than two hundred works by contemporary Australian and foreign artists. ACCA annually orders six or seven paintings from contemporary Australian artists for the gallery. The list of authors the museum collaborates with includes Australians Pat Brassington, Callum Morton, Patricia Piccini, and foreigners Martin Creed, Barbara Krueger, Tasita Dean, Jenny Holzer and Joseph Kosat [4] . ACCA also hosts numerous thematic exhibitions and implements art projects, such as the Great Wall project. The collection of the gallery includes the infamous sculpture " " by abstract and minimalist .
