Femke Dekker ( Dutch: Femke Dekker , born July 11, 1979) is a Dutch athlete, a rower, a medalist in the rowing championship and world cup. Olympic champion of the 2008 Summer Olympics .

Biography

Femke Paulina Dekker was born July 11, 1979 in the city of Leiderdorp , province of South Holland . She began her career as a professional rower since 1995. Consists and trains at the Die Leythe LR&ZV club, Leiderdorp .

The first international competition Decker took part in was the 1995 World Junior Rowing Championships in Poznan (1995 WORLD ROWING JUNIOR CHAMPIONSHIPS). In the doubles pair with a score of 07: 24.920, she took third place, losing to rivals from Austria (07: 22.460 - 2nd place) and Germany (07: 19.690 - 1st place) [1] .

The Netherlands national rowing team at the 2008 Summer Olympics in Beijing, Dekker represented in the discipline - eight with the helmsman. In the final race, her team with the result 6: 07.22 took second place, overtaking the team from Romania (6: 07.25 - 3rd place), but losing the gold award to rivals from the USA (6: 05.34 - 1st place) [2] [3] .

Decker earned two awards at once at the 2009 World Rowing Championship , which took place in the Polish city of Poznan. The four-man race won the gold medal, in which she, along with Chantal Achterberg , Ninke Kingma and Carlin Bowe, overtook rivals from the USA and Canada [4] . Bronze was earned in the eights competition, in which the Dutch team lost 6: 07.43 to rivals from Romania and the USA [5] .

At the 2010 World Rowing Championships in Karapiro, the Dutch four were not considered the favorite of the race. From the start, the Dekker team went third, but managed to overtake rivals from Australia and the USA and get the gold medal of the competition [6] .
