Club career
A native of Dublin, Dunn played for the local youth team Stella Maris . He was invited to watch at Manchester United, but there he was considered “not high enough” for the goalkeeper [1] . After viewing at Everton , he began training with the youth academy of the Merseyside Club, but could not get through to the main squad. In 1962, Dunn returned to his homeland, becoming a Shamrock Rovers player. He made his debut for the team on August 22, 1962 in a match against Shelburne . Later in the same season 1962/63, Dunn played in the Cup Winners' Cup , and in the 1963/64 season - in the Fairs Cup . Total won with the club five trophies, including the league title and the Cup of Ireland.
In May 1964, Dunn moved to the English club Manchester United for £ 10,500 [2] . Due to injuries of David Gaskell and Harry Gregg, Dunn got a chance to play in the first team. He made his debut for United on September 8, 1964 in a match against Everton at Goodison Park , which ended in a draw with a score of 3: 3. Total season 1964/65 spent 55 matches, including 37 matches in the championship (keeping the gate "dry" in 17 league matches). At the end of the season, United became the champion of England. Dunn was excellent "on the ribbon" and played well with his feet, but was not so reliable when playing at exits and was not very stable. One expert noted: “When Pat was fit, he was very, very good, but when he wasn’t, he was terrible” [3] .
In the 1965/66 season, Dunn rarely got into the main team, losing the competition to veteran Harry Gregg. And after buying Alex Stepney in February 1967, Dann was allowed to leave United. In total, he played for the club 67 matches [2] .
In February 1967, Dunn moved to Plymouth Argyle for £ 5000 . In 1968, he was recognized as the best player of the past season in the Plymouth. He played for the club until 1970, playing for the " pilgrims " a total of 164 matches.
In November 1970, he returned to Shamrock Rovers, which he advocated until 1977.
From 1978 to 1980, he was a playing coach at the Thurles Town Club. In the 1980/81 season, he worked as a playing coach at Shelburne . In 1981, he completed his football career.
Career in the national team
