Biography

Born on October 5, 1905 in the town of Saint-Lambert near Montreal . He was educated at the University of Montreal , in 1926 he graduated with a bachelor's degree. He studied with Marie-Victorin , after receiving a degree, began to work as a laboratory assistant. In 1928 he received a license degree, after which he began to teach with the rank of associate professor and taught courses in genetics, paleobotany and economic botany.

In 1931 and 1933 he studied at Cornell University , in 1932 - at the University of New Mexico , and also studied at the University of Vermont and Harvard for some time. In 1934 he received a doctorate in science, in a dissertation examining the taxonomy of the Astragalus clan.

Since 1938 he worked as an assistant to Marie-Victorin in the Montreal Botanical Garden, in 1944 he was replaced as director, he was until 1956.

In 1957, Jacques Rousseau was appointed director of the Department of Human History of the National Museum in Ottawa . From 1959 to 1962, he taught at the Sorbonne , then returned to Canada, becoming a professor of ethnobiology in Laval .

He died on August 4, 1970 .
