Ivar Mathisen ( June 14, 1920 - October 7, 2008 ) is a former Norwegian canoe sprinter. He took part in competitions in rowing sprint in the 1940s - early 1950s. At the 1948 Summer Olympics in London, he won a silver medal in the K-2 discipline at a distance of 10,000 meters with team-mate Knut Estby . At the same games, he took fourth place in the K-2 discipline of 1000 meters.

Biography
Mathisen started early in the Norwegian sports canoe club Bærum KK [3] . During the German occupation of Norway, the club was disbanded, but some of its members continued training. In the fall of 1940, Mathisen and nine other people took part in the movement of the Norwegian Resistance movement . Athletes conducted paramilitary exercises on the Oslo fjord islands in Norway. Mathisen got a job at a paper mill in Hamang, where athletes also trained. In the cellar of the factory building, they practiced shooting with the English Wall submachine guns and Bren light machine guns . Their training did not arouse suspicion among German soldiers or the Gestapo [4] .
Sports career
After the war, Mathisen took part in international kayaking and canoeing competitions. In 1948, at the World Sprint Canoe Championships, he won a silver medal in the K-1 discipline relay 4 × 500 meters with teammates Ivaros Iversen, Hans Martin Gulbrandsen and Eyvind Skabo [5] . At the 1948 Summer Olympics, Mathisen and his teammate teammate Estby Knut won a silver medal in the K-2 discipline of 10,000 m and took fourth place in the K-2 discipline of 1,000 m [6] . At the 1950 Kayaking and Canoeing World Championships, Matisen and Estby Knut Østby won the silver medal in the K-2 discipline of 1,000 m [5] . At the 1952 Summer Olympics in Helsinkion , he won fifth place in the disciplines of K-2 1000 m and K-2 10000 m [6] .
Until his death in October 2008, Mathisen lived in the Norwegian village of Vøyenenga.
