Biography
His full name is Abul-al-Walid 'Abdu-al-Malik ibn' Abdu-al-Aziz ibn Juraj al-Rumi al-Kurashi al-Makki. He was of Greek descent (ancestor named Gregory), probably was a freedman of the family of Khalid ibn Asad. He was interested in philology, literature, history. He transmitted Hadith from Ata ibn Abu Rabahi , Mujahid , Ikrimah and other famous people. Hadiths of Waki , Ibn al-Mubarak , Sufyan ibn Uyayna , etc. were transmitted from him. [1]
He was so erudite that he was considered an Imam Hejaz. Little is known about his life, except for the fact that he accompanied Ma'na ibn Za'id in Yemen , soon returned from there and by the end of his life came to Iraq for al-Mansur’s trial. His name is connected, on the one hand, with the question of the legality of the transmission of Hadith through a letter, rather than an oral transmission ( herself ), and on the other hand, with the tradition of writing Hadith. Said ibn Abu 'Aruba considered him to be the first in the Hejaz , and even in the entire Islamic world, who brought together the Hadith of the Prophet Muhammad in the book fi l' 'Aasar vahuruf al-tafsir . Goldzier argued that the priority given to Ibn Juraij was undeserved, as the collections of hadiths are mentioned in an earlier period. In any case, his work was a collection of legal traditions, grouped under the sections on purity, prayer, zakat , etc. [1]
