100 most endangered species

The 100 most threatened species ( English The world's 100 most threatened species ) - a list of hundreds of the most vulnerable representatives of the world flora and fauna [1] . It was prepared in 2012 IUCN IUCN ( International Union for Conservation of Nature Species Survival Commission, IUCN SSC ), which includes more than 8 thousand specialists, in collaboration with the zoological community of London , which also year published it in the form of a book called "Priceless or Worthless?" ( Russian. Priceless or worthless? ) [2] . The criterion for the inclusion of living creatures in this selection was that they all do not have any obvious benefit for human society, and therefore the threat of their extinction does not meet with widespread publicity and funding aimed at preserving these species [3] .

Abies beshanzuensisPhoto galleryChina , Zhejiang Province . The only population of this species of fir from 7 plants was discovered in 1963 on Mount Baishanzu; at present, 3 to 5 mature trees remain in the wild. Agriculture, fires[four]
Type PhotosBrazil , atlantic forest . The butterfly was considered extinct from 1981 to 1991. The only known population for 2005 lives in the municipality of Santo Andre , east of the village of . The habitat of the population is exposed to significant human impact, and therefore the number of the host plant Mikania obsoleta decreases . Protective measures are needed, as well as a search for other species in the region.

New Guinean Flying
(Aproteles bulmerae)
Papua New Guinea , Western Province . For a long time, the winged wing was considered to live only in one cave, which in 1993 was inhabited by about 160 individuals. In 2005-2006, individual animals were recorded in the Crater Mountain Wildlife Sanctuary; there is also evidence of a species living in the upper reaches of the Fly River and in the middle reaches of the Purari River in Gulf Province.
Hunting, restlessness in habitats (caves)

White-bellied heron
( Ardea insignis )
The foothills of the Himalayas in eastern Bhutan , northeast India and northern Myanmar ; in total, the species distribution area covers more than 56 thousand km². In Nepal and Bangladesh, heron is no longer found. The estimated abundance of the species in 2006 ranged from 70 to 400 individuals; it was supposed to decrease in the future. Habitat loss is facilitated by wetland pollution, depletion of natural resources, forest fires, hydropower development and road construction. It is advisable to breed herons with subsequent release into the wild, stop the destructive exploitation of river territories, as well as mitigate the negative effects of the construction of hydroelectric power stations.[eleven]
Indian big bustard
(Ardeotis nigriceps)
India and possibly Pakistan . The largest subpopulation of about 100 individuals lives in the state of Rajasthan in the north-east of the country. Small, no more than 30 birds, subpopulations are noted in the states of Gujarat , Maharashtra , Karnataka and Andhra Pradesh . The total number of species does not exceed 300 birds and decreases. agriculture development[12]

In the Bukit Timah nature reserve, the species disappeared as a result of increasing acidity of the water. The main threats to the species are water pollution and lowering of the water horizon. Protection from extinction should include the protection of the crab's habitat, as well as the urgent creation of a population outside its natural habitat.[52]
