Sporting Achievements
Thomas Schmidt took part in kayaking and canoeing competitions from the mid-1990s to the mid-2000s.
Taking part in competitions at the two summer Olympic Games , he won a gold medal in the K-1 discipline in Sydney at the 2000 Summer Olympics . At the 2004 Olympics in Athens, he was fifth.
Schmidt also won two medals in the K-1 discipline (team classification) at the World Championships in rowing slalom, organized by the International Canoe Federation in 2002 (gold) and in 2003 (bronze).
In 2001, he was the champion of the K-1 World Cup competitions. At the European Championships in 1996, 1998, 2002, he won three gold medals in the K-1 discipline (team classification).
In 2004, Schmidt graduated from the University of Augsburg. As an engineer, he also commented on athletes competing in rowing slalom in the Euro Sport television program. Since November 2008, has been a member of the International Canoe Federation.
Thomas Schmidt is married, has a daughter. He lives in Augsburg, is a member of the sports club Kanu Schwaben Augsburg.
