Biography
She started rowing in 1971 at the University of California at Long Beach. In 1973, she took sixth place in the races of "loners" among non-citizens of the continent at the open European Championship. At the World Championships in English Nottingham (1975) took fifth place.
At the Summer Olympics in Montreal (1976), she won the silver medal among the “singles”.
At the world championships 1977, 1978 and 1979. ranked fifth. After a boycott of the West by the Moscow Olympics (1980), she decided to end her sports career. However, she returned to the big sport in 1984 to take part in the Summer Games in Los Angeles, where she became the vice champion in the four-member pair.
She was married to a three-time participant in the Olympics, John Van Bloom. After completing her studies at St. Thomas's College, she worked as a teacher and trainer.
In 2014, she was awarded the Ernestine Bayer Award for her contribution to the development of rowing. The National Rowing Hall of Fame was also introduced. In the hometown of the athlete, California Long Beach, one of the bridges is named after her.
