Biography

Born April 21, 1908 in Kew in the family of Frank Tyutin and his wife Jane. He studied at the Kotama High School in Bristol, in 1927 he entered the Downing College of Cambridge University . In 1929, together with Edmund Warberg, he participated in an expedition to Madeira and the Azores, in 1931 he went on an expedition to Spain and Morocco, in 1933 - to British Guyana.

Since 1934 he worked in the laboratory of the Association of Marine Biology in Plymouth , where he studied the genus Vzmornik . In 1937 he went on an expedition to Lake Titicaca .

In 1938, Tyutin worked for a while as a laboratory assistant at Kings College, since 1939 he taught as an assistant at the University of Manchester .

In 1942, he married Winifred Pennington , a lake sedimentation specialist.

Since 1944, Tyutin was a senior teacher of embryology at the botanical department of the University College of Leicester , since 1947 he was a professor of botany. In 1967, he was appointed professor of plant taxonomy at the newly created School of Biological Sciences. From 1973 to 1985 he worked in the herbarium with the title of professor emeritus.

From 1957 to 1961, Tyutin was president of the Botanical Society of the British Isles. In 1977, he was awarded the Gold Medal of the London Linnaeus Society .

Since 1945, Tyutin is a member of the Linnean Society of London. In 1982, he was elected a member of the Royal Society of London .

He died on October 7, 1987 .
