Electoral system
The President of Uganda is elected in two rounds. [6] When a candidate receives more than 50% in the first round, the second round is not conducted. A presidential candidate must be a Ugandan citizen by birth, aged between 35 and 75 years old and must be qualified for a member of parliament. [7] The candidate must be in good mental condition and have no connections to the Uganda Election Commission. In 2005, the limit on the number of terms in power was lifted. [eight]
Members of parliament are elected in single-member constituencies according to the relative majority system. A number of places are reserved for women. [9] In the elections of 2011, 375 deputies were elected, by 2016 the number of seats of parliament was increased to 418. [10]
For the elections, the CEC registered 15 277 198 voters. [eleven]
