Grodzisk-Mazowiecki ( Polish. Grodzisk Mazowiecki ) is a city in Poland , part of the Mazovian Voivodeship , Grodziski County . It has the status of an urban-rural commune. It covers an area of 13.19 km². The population is 26,881 people (for 2004 ).

History
In the XI-XIII centuries there existed a fortress of the early Middle Ages. In 1522, King Sigismund I granted the status and rights of the city. In 1540, a fire destroyed the entire city. In 1655, during the Flood of Sweden, the city was again burned.
After the Third Partition of the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth (1795), it fell under the power of the Prussian kingdom .
In 1845, the railway was built and a communication with the capital Warsaw was established. In the years 1940-1941, a Jewish ghetto was created here, in which there were about 6,000 prisoners, liquidated in 1942.
In the years 1975-1998, the city was part of the Warsaw metropolitan voivodship .
