Biography
He began his military career under the King of Bavaria, Ludwig I , served under Ludwig II and Otto I of Bavaria .
In 1842 he graduated from the cadet corps . Fanen-Junker enlisted in the Royal Bavarian Infantry Life Regiment. Member of the Austro-Prussian-Italian war of 1866.
With the rank of major, he was appointed an officer in the General Staff of the 4th Bavarian Division.
During the war with France in 1870, he became lieutenant colonel, chief of staff of the first army corps under the command of Ludwig von der Tann , in which he brilliantly distinguished himself in the battles of Wörth , Sedan and Orleans .
October 11, 1870, took command instead of the wounded commander and personally led the 1st Bavarian Royal Infantry Regiment "König" on the attack. For his courage, he was awarded the highest military order of the Kingdom of Bavaria - the Knight's Cross of the Military Order of Maximilian Joseph .
A few months later he received the rank of major general and took command in 1875 over a brigade stationed in Metz , in 1878 he was chief of staff of the Royal Bavarian army, in 1882 he was commander of the 4th division with the rank of lieutenant general .
In April 1885 he became a member of the highest advisory body to the king - the State Council of the Kingdom of Bavaria and was appointed Minister of War. He took a number of measures to improve, modernize and develop the Bavarian royal army, its military training.
In May 1890, for health reasons, retired.
