History
The first documented mention of the village of Pogorzhaly-Stav, located on the territory of the current city, dates back to 1401. The first mention of the village of Pyaski ( Pyassek alias Gyelczew ) is found in the Latin annals of Jan Dlugos in 1470. Based on these testimonies, it is believed that the city of Piaski appeared approximately in the first half of the 15th century on lands formerly owned by these two villages. In the XVI and XVII centuries, a significant part of the city's population was Protestant, so it became known as Pyaski-Lutersky (Lutheran).
