It was originally a defensive point of the Chersky principality, then the principality of Plotsk. From 1455-1462 residence of the independent principality of Ravia. In 1462, Rava was incorporated into the Kingdom of Poland.
In 1507 there was a big fire, but two years later the reconstruction and strengthening of the castle began.
During the Swedish invasion of Poland, the castle was conquered and partially blown up. In 1776, attempts were made to raise funds for the restoration of the castle, however, they were unsuccessful. By the end of the XIII century. the castle was finally abandoned. Soon, by order of the Prussian government, the demolition of the castle walls began in order to obtain building material.
