Nowogard ( Polish. Nowogard ) is a city in Poland , part of the West Pomeranian Voivodeship , Goleniów County . It has the status of urban-rural commune. It covers an area of 12.00 km². The population is 16 916 people (as of 2013 ) [1] .

History
In the XVII century, the city was part of Brandenburg , then Prussia , from 1871 - the German Empire , from 1933 - the Third Reich , from 1945 - Poland.
The most important historical events [2] :
- 1268 - the first document with the name of the city ("Nogart Castrum et villa sive oppidum episcopi Caminensis")
- 1309 - city status
- 1330—34 - construction of the church
- 1534 - Lutheranism was proclaimed a religion
- 1808 - Nowogard became a county
- 1883 - railway line launched
- 1939 - 8,148 inhabitants
- 1945.03.04—05 - Novogard was liberated by the 12th Guards Tank Corps of the First Belorussian Front (commander: Hero of the Soviet Union , Lieutenant General Nikolai Telyakov ), the 79th Rifle Corps of the 3rd Shock Army (commander: Hero of the Soviet Union , General Major Semyon Perevertkin ), Polish 3rd Berlin Regiment of the 1st Division named after T. Kostyushko (commander: Colonel Alexander Arkhipovich [3] ).
- 1946 - change of the German city name Naugard to Polish Nowogard.
