George Nixon Briggs ( eng. George Nixon Briggs ; April 12, 1796 , Adams, Mass. - September 12, 1861 , Pittsfield, Mass.) Is an American politician. He was a member of the House of Representatives of the US Congress in 1831-1843 and governor from the state of Massachusetts from 1844 to 1851.

Briggs studied law and began his career in 1818 as a lawyer in Massachusetts. In 1831, he succeeded Henry W. Dwight as a member of Congress . He remained in office until 1843, and the following year took office as governor of Massachusetts, where he remained until 1851. As governor, he represented the Whig party . From the Know Nothing party, he ran for governor in 1859, but lost the election.
